A Riichi Mahjong tournament and a chance to discover one of Japan's most fascinating strategy games – September 6th.
Although mahjong was born in China, in Japan it took on its own form and became an inseparable part of contemporary Japanese culture. Riichi mahjong (リーチ麻雀) – the Japanese version of the game – is played today by millions of people across Japan: at home, in dedicated mahjong parlours, in university clubs, and even in professional leagues.
In Japan, mahjong is not just a strategic table game but a tradition of connection, where people of different generations come together. What matters here is not only winning, but enjoying the game itself, learning from others, and spending time together.
On September 6th (Sunday), a Riichi Mahjong tournament, organised by the Mahjong Club, will take place at the Bon Odori Vilnius festival. If you already play – come try your hand in the tournament. And if you've never held mahjong tiles before – stop by to get to know one of Japan's most fascinating strategy games and feel its unique atmosphere.
